Our Raw Tri-Color Maca Root Powder is a unique and traditional blend of all 3 major colors of maca roots. It is made from a mix of all 3 colors of maca roots: black, red and yellow. We call this blend “Heritage Harvest” because the tri-color blend is the way that people in the Andes have traditionally eaten maca. Before the 1990s, maca roots were not separated by color.  Instead, after harvest they were simply lumped together for consumption.

Our raw tri-color maca is a blend of maca powders made from about 40% yellow, 30% red and 30% black maca roots. It is therefore an excellent way to get the benefits of all 3 major colors of maca root. In addition, this powder remains “raw” as it has never been heated above about 110 F / 41 C.

Our Raw Tri-Color Maca Powder

As with all of our powders, raw tri-color powder is made from roots that are organically grown, handled, processed and stored with care and consciousness. The roots come from an organic farming cooperative in and around Junin, Peru. We work only with producers who own and manage their lands at a local grass roots level. The cooperative of farmers is committed both to organic farming and to producing the highest quality Maca products available anywhere. We're very happy to support their work.

Raw tri-color maca powder is a great way to get started with maca. Since it requires less work to sort the roots by color, this maca is less expensive than others. Yet, it contains black, red and yellow maca, thereby offering benefits of all three.

Many of our customers start with a tri-color maca product and later move on to a red, black or yellow product. It’s great to do that as the nutritional profiles do differ slightly between the colors. Other people try raw tri-color maca and stick with it.

How Is The Powder Different From Capsules?

Maca powder is less expensive than capsules simply because it costs more in labor and material to create the capsules. For some people the expense is worth it as capsules are more convenient than powders. Capsules need no special mixing or preparation. To take them you simply swallow them with a beverage of your choice. In addition, it is easy to get a very precise serving size using capsules since the amount of maca they contain is standardized (ours at 750mg per capsule).
In terms of powders, they are less expensive and offer more flexibility when taking them. They can be added to smoothies or other recipes. It is easy to adjust serving sizes. Plus, maca root powder adds an interesting earthy caramel-like flavor to many dishes that quite a few people appreciate.

How Do I Eat Raw Maca Powder?

The simplest way to consume raw tri-color maca powder is to mix it in with water, milk or yogurt of your choice. While that works for some people, many others prefer to add it to their smoothies or use it in other recipes. We do have an extensive recipe section. Here is one of our favorites for this particular kind of maca:

Maca and Chia Smoothie

Ingredients:

    • 2 frozen bananas
    • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
    • 1 tbsp almond butter
    • 1 tbsp raw tri-color maca powder
    • 1 tbsp of chia seeds
    • ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
    • ½ tsp ground cinnamon + sprinkling

Directions:

Add all ingredients to a blender. Turn on the blender for 2-3 minutes. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon.

Storage/Shelf Life:

Maca keeps well for up to 24 months provided that it is stored in a sealed bag out of direct sunlight and at below 70% humidity. (More storage and use tips)

Suggested Use:

Maca is classified as a food rather than a supplement or herb. There are no known contraindications or side effects related to taking it. Daily dosage recommendations range from 3 -9 grams (1-3 teaspoons) for a healthy individual weighing about 160 lbs. Maca may be taken with water, juices or milks. It also may be mixed with food. The Maca Team brand is very special.

I've tried various maca brands over the last 20 years and The Maca Team brand is very special. There is definitely a difference when it comes to the quality and colors of the maca.
