Our Raw Red Maca Root Powder is made from 100% red maca roots. These roots are carefully and consciously grown, processed and handled by an organic farming cooperative in and around Junin, Peru. We work only with producers who own and manage their lands at a local grass roots level. You can incorporate raw red maca powder into your diet in 3 major ways.

First, and most common, is to take your daily serving of raw red maca powder mixed into water or milk of your choice. We recommend using a shaker jar or blender to fully mix the powder with the liquid. We also suggest taking your serving of maca in the morning so that you can enjoy the energy boost maca provides throughout the day.

Second, you can add raw red maca powder to a smoothie recipe of your choice. We have quite a few raw maca recipes that you can try for yourself. Maca works well with other superfoods such as goji berries, hemp seeds, cacao, coconut oil etc. Here’s a nice sample recipe:

Maca Strawberry Banana Smoothie

Ingredients:
• 6-10 medium fresh strawberries
• 1 banana
• 1-3 t raw red maca powder
• 1/4 cup rice or almond milk
• 1/2 t vanilla extract
• 1 t flaxseed oil
• 1 C ice cubes (if you want a cold drink)

Preparation:  Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy this healthy strawberry banana smoothie immediately.

A third way to prepare raw red maca powder is to add it to one of your favorite recipes. Many people enjoy adding it to a breakfast cereal such as oatmeal or cream of wheat. You can try one of the raw recipes on our recipes page or invent one yourself.

What’s The Difference Between Raw Red Maca Powder and Capsules?

Raw red maca powder is less expensive than our capsules per serving. That’s because of the extra labor and material costs involved in making the capsules themselves. The powder is also more versatile than capsules since you can easily mix in beverages or add it to dishes you like to make. On the other hand, capsules are easier to use when it comes to getting a precise serving size. Capsules are also more convenient to take with you on the go.

Is Raw Red Maca Powder Better Than Black Or Yellow Maca?raw red maca powder from The Maca Team

This is a difficult question to answer precisely. The 3 major colors of maca, black, red and yellow, are all from the exact same species and do have very similar nutritional profiles. That said, studies have shown red maca to work better for prostate health and for general hormone balance. Since it tastes a bit sweeter raw red maca powder is also easier for many people to take. Beyond that, as long as you are taking a high-quality, Peruvian grown organic maca powder you will likely see positive results from adding it to your life.

Should I Use Raw Red Maca Powder or Gelatinized Red Maca Powder?

Over the years, we’ve seen that taking raw maca powders works well for over 90% of people. For the other 10% it can cause temporary digestive issues such as gas or bloating. The reason for that is the starch content found in raw maca. If you have any issues digesting starch or if you generally have a sensitive digestive system please use our gelatinized red maca instead. The starch content has been removed and digestion should not be an issue. Another alternative is to try our red maca extract, which is also much easier to digest.

Storage/Shelf Life:

Maca keeps well for up to 24 months provided that it is stored in a sealed bag out of direct sunlight and at below 70% humidity. (More storage and use tips)

The Maca Team brand is very special.

I've tried various maca brands over the last 20 years and The Maca Team brand is very special. There is definitely a difference when it comes to the quality and colors of the maca. This red maca does seem to nourish certain parts of my body while the black maca nourishes something else. I know I've been missing the nutrition these maca provide.
