All of our maca products are made from maca roots that are carefully and consciously grown, processed and handled. They come from an organic farming co-op near Junin, Peru, the traditional farming area for maca. We work only with producers who own and manage their lands at a local grass roots level. About Premium Gelatinized Black Maca

There are two important things that set these maca capsules apart in terms of processing. First, they are filled with “premium” maca powder. What makes it premium is the way that maca roots are processed after harvest. We start by taking black maca roots out of the ground at precisely the right time (about 9 months after planting). Instead of being traditionally sundried over weeks, the roots are transported to a processing facility where they are quickly dried in large dehydrators. This fast processing leaves higher levels of the anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer glucosionalates in the roots.

After this process, the roots are then gelatinized. Gelatinization is a process in which maca is heated to high temperatures (160F / 70C). The heat causes the starch molecules in maca to irreversibly dissolve and the result is a powder that has had some of its nutrients compromised but is easier to digest than raw maca. It’s important to note that nothing is added to maca during the gelatinization process and that it is 100% vegan.
