Our Gelatinized Red Maca Root Powder is made from 100% red maca roots that are carefully and consciously grown, processed and handled. These roots come from an organic farming cooperative in and around Junin, Peru. We work only with producers who own and manage their lands at a local grass roots level. The cooperative of farmers is committed both to organic farming and to producing only the highest quality maca products anywhere.

How is gelatinized red maca powder different than raw red maca powder?

The main difference between these two kinds of maca powder is that gelatinized maca is pre-cooked, while raw maca is not. In the gelatinization process, red maca roots are heated to above 160 F / 71 C in order to dissolve the starch content within the roots. This process makes the resulting maca powder easier to assimilate. Some of the key points of red gelatinized maca are:

  • Gelatinized maca is the easiest maca to digest and the most suitable for anyone with a sensitive stomach.
  • The gelatinization process concentrates some of maca’s nutrients so in some cases you may need to take a bit less than with raw maca for similar results.
  • Vitamin C content and enzymes are heat sensitive and are lost in the gelatinization process.
  • No other ingredients are added during gelatinization. The process has absolutely nothing to do with “gelatin” and red gelatinized maca powder is 100% vegan.
  • Some nutrients including active metabolites are activated and amplified due to the heat and pressure used in making gelatinized red maca.

Who is gelatinized red maca indicated for?

Is gelatinized red maca powder better than gelatinized red maca capsules?

This is a good question. Our capsules contain 100% pure maca powders so, with the exception of the vegetable cellulose that comprises the capsule itself, they are identical to our powders. That means that in terms of nutrition there is not difference. When it comes to other factors there are a few differences. First, maca powder is more economical than maca capsules. It requires specialized machinery and more labor to create and package maca capsules. This increases the cost. Gelatinized red maca powder is about 20% less expensive than the capsules for that reason. Second, maca powder is suitable and easy to mix into smoothies or other recipes, On the other hand capsules are certainly more convenient than powders. It is quicker to take them and easier to get a precise serving size daily. Capsules also disguise the taste of maca powder for those who don’t like it.
