What is Premium Maca?

They key difference between our standard and premium maca products lies in the way that they’re prepared: namely, our raw maca powders have been set out to dry in the sun before being ground for consumption whereas our premium maca powders are dried in a low-temperature dehydrator immediately after being harvested. We call this the “fresh-processed” approach as it means your maca is ready for consumption more quickly than it would be if sundried, a more time-consuming process. It doesn’t seem like that would change the maca content much, and it doesn’t. But the changes it does bring about are worth considering when you’re deciding between raw or premium maca.

The most obvious distinction lies in taste. Our premium maca powder is lighter in color and the flavor is more spicy than that of sun dried maca. This means that if you dislike the taste of raw maca, you might have a little more difficulty with the sharper flavor of premium maca. But the dehydration process causes another noteworthy difference - it results in a higher percentage of glucosinolates in our premium maca products.

Why Should You Choose Premium Maca?

What are glucosinolates, and why are they a good thing? Glucosinolates are a large group of sulfur-containing metabolites or glucosides found in certain vegetables, including broccoli and horseradish. That probably doesn’t tell you much, though you’re likely aware that vegetables are mostly good for you, right? Pharmacological research has shown that glucosinolates possess anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant qualities, which help the body fight off infections. Further studies have found that these elements are cancer-preventative, too.

Adding Premium Maca to Your Diet

There are a few things to keep in mind when you’ve decided to take a premium maca product, like our Premium Raw Black Maca Powder. I've tried various maca brands over the last 20 years and The Maca Team brand is very special. There is definitely a difference when it comes to the quality and colors of the maca.
